Dance Programs

China Dance & Arts offers Ballet, Classical Chinese Dance, Chinese Traditional and Folk Dance, Jazz, Latin, European Character Dance, Hip Hop, Lyrical Dance, etc. Upon registration, the school shall recommend specific classes for each student based on her/his own interest, ability and class availabilities. The school also provides coaching to prepare for dance competitions and intensive pre-show training and private rehearsals for solo performances.


Beginning Ballet
(Pre-ballet-Level 2)

Fundamental characteristics of ballet are introduced. These include musicality, rhythm and basic ballet terminology . Beginning ballet techniques are taught that hand, feet positions and basic elements of ballet training. The focus is on basic alignment, coordination, balance, control as well as establishing good discipline required for further ballet training.

Intermediate Ballet
(Level 3-5)

More complex combination exercises at the barre and center are introduced with emphasis on presenting the art form through execution of proper body alignment, clarity, strength, flexibility and musicality.

Advanced Ballet
(Level 6-8)

Comprehensive understanding and execution of ballet technique and artistry are expected. In addition to completing complex combination exercises with accuracy and confidence, this level also pushes students to maximize his/her strength, flexibility, balance and movement freedom as well as the ability to express concepts and emotions in choreography through the art form. Students are aspired to reach for the higher standards established for professional dancers.

Beginning Chinese Dance
(Pre-Chinese Dance-Level 2)

Foster young childrens' confidence and interest in dance through training in musicality, rhythm and routines with focus on hand, eye, body and feet coordinations. Basic Chinese dance technique is introduced.

Intermediate Chinese Dance
(Level 3-5)

Special teaching methods are applied to train students in techniques, flexibility and strength that are of characteristics in traditional Chinese dance. Students are gradually introduced to various forms of Chinese folk dance and the art form of Classical Chinese dance.

Advanced Chinese Dance
(Level 6-8)

Intensive technique training with higher level of difficulties is emphasized at this level. Students are expected to master skills in jumps, turns and flips that are fundamental technique elements in Chinese dance. In addition, students are trained specifically on ethnicity in Chinese folk dances, and beautiful, fluid, Epaulement that is of essence in Classical Chinese Dance. Programs that are both technically and artistically challenging are showcased in dance performances.


Standard Chinese Program

Standard Chinese is a series of Chinese teaching materials published by the China People’s Education Press in Beijing -- the largest textbook publisher in the world. With the sponsorship of Chinese Ministry of Education and China National Office of Chinese Language International Council, China’s National Curriculum and Teaching Materials Research Institute organised textbook specialists and special-ranked experienced teachers to develop these teaching materials in the purpose of preparing for those who are willing to study Chinese in Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States.

Standard Chinese consists of 9 textbooks, 12 exercise books, and 3 Chinese reading books. The whole textbooks are graded into three levels. Each level has three textbooks and every book has 30 lessons. The grammatical studies are arranged from the easy to the difficult and in a way of developing in spirals, combining with the training of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Textbook Level One has Chinese Phonetic Alphabet for all the texts. Most of the texts are dialogues with characters and situations, and are close to the children’s life. Textbooks Level Two has more fairy tales, stories and poems with novel, rich and readable contents. In Textbooks Level One and Two, in addition to texts, every lesson has basic sentences, new words, phrases and exercises. Vocabularies and phrases are attached at the end of the book. On completion of studying Standard Chinese Levels One and Two, the learners can learn 2,540 frequently-used Chinese words, about 6,362 terms and 725 basic sentences with a preliminary capability of listening, speaking, reading and writing of text with one or two paragraphs, simple letters and keeping a diary.

Textbook Level Three are designed for junior high school students. At this stage, Chinese Reading Books replace the exercise books. Textbooks in this level are divided into six integrated units. Every lesson has a text, new words and terms, illustrative phrases and exercises. The textbooks are developed to suit the characteristics of the students’ age and mentality, having variety of text contents and practical and interesting exercises, with special attention paid to develop the students’ learning ability and creativity. Those who have successfully completed Standard Chinese Level Three will qualify and even exceed the requirements of SAT Chinese and AP Chinese Culture and Language tests in the U.S.



Art Classes

Classes will concentrate on developing and reinforcing the students' ability of observation, imagination, and expression, from beginning drawing classes to intermediate drawing classes.

Students will focus on the exploration of visual art techniques, mediums and a wide variety of subjects such as human figures, animals, architectures, plants, etc. Growth of personal observation, creativity and understanding of visual world (both subjective and objective).
